This year’s club, Under The Sea, was a week exploring Bible stories involved water (there are many!) And despite saying Holiday Club couldn’t get any bigger – we managed to squeeze in 120 children aged four to ten! Each morning we boarded a submarine and then scuba dived to the sea bed for our aqua-aerobics style workout complete with amazing bubble machines (they really were amazing!) We played lots of games, sang songs, danced, made some brilliant crafts, puppets, watched clips of Finding Nemo and had a drumming workshop with the Psalm Drummers (a highlight for many including Father Paul!)

Lucy Taylor reprised her artistic role during the week co-ordinating an under the sea weaving project which saw all 120 children contribute by weaving and making recycled sea creatures. Robyn Wilson also worked her puppetry magic by crafting some sea creatures with many of the groups.

Following on from the success of last year’s Big Picnic the weather was on our side on the Wednesday afternoon when over half the children’s parents joining us for a picnic in the Hall Garden. It was also great to chill out with some of the leaders and helpers during the Wednesday evening social night.

This year for our annual leaders and helpers dance we decided to go one better by filming an X Factor spoof video and forming to make a super group performing Don’t Stop Believing (what an appropriate song!)

On Sunday we celebrated our fantastic week with a special Under The Sea Service, followed by a delicious breakfast. As always, I must take this opportunity to thank my fantastic team of leaders, helpers, techies, dancers and deep sea divers that worked tirelessly throughout the week to make it so brilliant as well as the brilliant refreshments and lunches team.

Holiday Club is such a huge undertaking every year. It is, without a doubt, my favourite bit of my job so thank you for all the support that you as a church gives it – financially, in prayer, setting up, bringing us food in the small hours, driving to collect lights, painting, planning, cutting out, attending and making it such an important and brilliant start to the Summer Holidays each year.
