Meet Catherine

CatherineHello, I’m Catherine and I’m one of the new Young Leaders at church. I’m currently in year 12 at the Royal Masonic in Rickmansworth and I’m studying history, Religious Studies, politics and psychology for my AS levels. I have been at Pinner Parish since I was about 6 when I started going to Junior Church.

I live at home with my mum, Lesley, who comes to Pinner Parish as well and my dad, Richard, who goes to St. Luke’s church, both of whom are solicitors. I have one sister who is currently in her final year at Leeds University studying medicine.

In my spare time, I play hockey for Eastcote for the Ladies 2 team. We play matches every Saturday which I love- mainly for the sausage and chips I get after the matches... When not playing hockey, going to school and being at church I go to Chelsea to watch the current Champions of Europe play what can only be described as atrocious football! My favourite players are Juan Mata and of course the best midfielder this country has ever seen, Frank Lampard.

This summer I will be taking on the biggest challenge of my life (no, not my A levels) I will be climbing Kilimanjaro for Cancer Research in memory of both of my Grandads who died from cancer in the past few years. This will also count towards my Gold Duke of Edinburgh award as a part of my residential section. I have my final expedition in Easter and hopefully not long after Kilimanjaro I will be off to St. James’ Palace to accept my award!

The biggest change I’ve noticed at church is the development in the youth section. I remember first coming to church and sitting in one of the side rooms singing ‘Our God is a great big God’. Then after a summer off we came back to church with ‘KidzKlub’. We’d moved to the big hall with a projector and a huge back drop. Since then the number of children has just kept growing!

As the new young leader I intend to keep on being a leader at KidzKlub and of course helping at Holiday Club (even if it means getting home at 3am from church during setting up weekend!) I also hope to get more involved in the charity side of the church as that is something which I enjoy doing.
