Cursillo in Pinner Parish Church

There are currently about ten people at St John's who are members of Cursillo and the number is growing.

Cursillo (pronounced "kur-see-yo") is a Spanish word, meaning “a short course”.  All in our group have been on a course comprising a three day weekend beginning on a Thursday to a Sunday afternoon.   During the weekend lay people and clergy give talks about Christian living and discipleship and join with the participants in worshipping, reflecting, learning, discussing the Christian faith and sharing experiences.  More information about Cursillo is available on the British Anglican Cursillo Council website www.ukcursillo.org.

Many who have attended Cursillo Weekends have found them an inspiring experience offering renewal and impetus in deepening their Christian commitment and faith within their own parishes.

However the main emphasis and spirituality of Cursillo is found in the ‘fourth day’: the time after the weekend ‘course’ when we are encouraged to continue our journey of faith together, most importantly through the support of Group Reunions. These are usually monthly meetings of three to five people in which we learn together and encourage each other in prayer, study and action. Their purpose is to help people live out their Christian lives in Church, community, and the workplace.  At the moment we have three Reunion Groups at St John's, two that meet in the evening, and one during the day.

There are also area or diocesan meetings, called Ultreyas, about every three months. These are larger gatherings of those who have been on a weekend or those exploring the possibility. They have a pattern of worship and witness, which aim to renew our commitment and strengthen us for service in the Church and the world.

All are warmly invited to attend Group Reunions and Ultreyas.  If you are interested, or for any further information about Cursillo please contact Mark Arnold, Cursillo Co-ordinator, at cursillo@pinnerparishchurch.org.uk.
